About

We have observed the modern rush to explain everything, and we find it exhausting. For centuries, across the tea-houses of Bukhara, the madrassas of Samarkand, and the markets of Anatolia, the wise fool Afandi has resolved our grandest predicaments simply by mounting his donkey backwards—the better to see where he has already been.

Here, we offer no commentary on the squabbles of the morning news, nor do we invite debate in the margins. We present one drawing each morning at tea: painted in the lacquer tradition of our ancestors, accompanied by a modest observation, and left entirely to your quiet contemplation.

Should a tale seem familiar, know that wisdom belongs to no single province. Should it seem absurd, remember that reality was absurd first.
